Well, it’s been over a week, and I finally caved. I really wanted to play Minecraft, so I opened up my MacBook Pro, dusted off the keyboard, and was stricken by how.. big it was. It’s amazing how much 3 inches diagonal really is. That wasn’t the first thing I noticed. After about 2 hours of minecraft, my battery was almost dead. I can’t help but wonder how long the CR-48 would last… Also, it got hot. And the fans were blowing. Loudly. So, the 3 biggest things I noticed?
1. Size
I’ll admit, I do like the idea of a netbook, but the CR-48 is not one. It is small, though, much smaller than my MBP. I liked it. Very light, it has all the advantages of a 10 incher minus the cramped fingers.
2. Battery Life
Considering the fact that Minecraft is a Java game, and the CR-48 doesn’t do java yet, the battery life isn’t a fair test. But it was noticeable enough that I had to leave my MBP plugged in while using it, whereas I could easily go a whole day on the other.
3. Heat/Fans
Does the CR-48 even have fans? I wouldn’t know, because I’ve never heard them. That’s right; the fans have not turned on since I got it. My MBP, on the other hand, growled when I woke it up. Within 30 minutes the fans were spinning, and didn’t stop until I did.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my MBP. The fact that it’s a much more powerful machine probably has a lot to do with all of these things. But has a “pick-up-and-go” computer, the CR-48 has it beat by a long-shot.
