Wanna Know: How to Work Securely From A Wireless Hotspot?

Many of us have used our laptops in a retail business or other public building by connecting to the Internet through a wireless hotspot. In fact, many people use their laptops in places like coffee shops, libraries, airports, bookstores and even restaurants because they have no other Internet access to use; and some do it because it looks cool. The trouble is that these hotspots are usually unsecured networks and can be monitored by someone with tools to monitor your transactions, including looking for passwords, sign-on IDs, and credit card numbers.
