Tech Support?

I have a dilemma!

So as I recently blogged, I just got a new Macbook Pro for school. This is my first laptop and now I have two computers availible for my personal use. The laptop and the desktop that I am typing this on. First some specs:

Mac OX X Leopard Version 10.5.8

2 GHz PowerPC G5

20″ matte display, 1680 x 1050

iLife ’08

iWork ’09

Legit copy of Adobe CS3 Design Premium

250GB Built in Hard-drive

Last model before iSight camera became standard

I’m at a bit of a loss here. I really don’t know what to use two computers for. I’m already running into confusion with files being on one computer and not on the other.

Someone recently suggested that I sell the desktop computer since I am not using it. This sounds like a logical idea, but I am a bit hesitant. I feel that the desktop is a bit more reliable because it isn’t at a great risk of being lost of stolen. That said, if it was stolen I would still need to invest in a replacement laptop so having the desktop wouldn’t really benefit me. From looking at similar models on craigslist I reckon I could get about $500 MAX for it.

I suppose one pro on the desktop side is working with video. My laptop has one firewire 800 port but I don’t even have a cable that supports that. My video projects as of late have been filmed with my digital picture camera that connects via USB. I’ve stopped using my old video camera because it shoots really grainy footage (and is quite outdated). To be honest it hasn’t been the same since I took it on the Empire State Building (New York, New York : P). So I guess since I only need a USB port video isn’t much of an issue.

I have also considered using the desktop purely as a backup for the laptop but to be honest that feels like a waste of desk space.

So what should I do? Sell? Trade? Use as a backup? Do you know of another use that I am overlooking? Let me know in the comments.
