Great Study Tips For College Exams

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Exams can stress out the most disciplined students.  Absorbing material can sometimes be very difficult without the proper preparation.  I’ve always been of the philosophy:  Work smart, not hard.  And your exams should not be any different.

1.  Plan ahead.
Cramming will not work all the time and it sure won’t work enough to get by.  Do a small amount of work every day and give yourself plenty of time to read the material.

2.  Make a schedule.
This is very important.  Make a schedule and stick to it.  Put time on your schedule to goof off just like you would study.  Organization is key.

3.  Choose the right study environment.
Make sure you are free of distractions.  A loud roommate or dorm are easy distractions that can lead to frustration.  No need for a loud TV or music either.

4.  Focus on the goal.
How many pages must you cover to absorb the material?  How many minutes does it take you to understand one page?  Put these together and do the math.  This is the amount of time you need.  Chip away at it every day.

5.  Down time.
Not doing anything or bored.  Follow this rule.  If you find yourself bored, pick up material for only 15 minutes and put it down.  It will add on to your study time and help you absorb material the easiest.

6. Take Notes.
Write down the essentials of the material yourself.  Do outlines and definitions with your amazing free laptop.  Be able to write these from your memory and apply them to real-world situations.

7.  Paraphrase your material.
Read a paragraph and then say out loud to yourself what the paragraph was about.  Paraphrasing is a great technique to help absorb material.

8.  Study what you don’t understand.
If you understand a concept well, move on to the next one.  There’s no need to go over what you already know.  Challenge yourself to work smarter.

9.  Work in class.
Listen, take notes on your free laptop and stay alert in class.  Ask questions and participate in class.  It will help you comprehend the material better.

10.  Get a free laptop
At Free Laptop College, we offer one of the best tools for your college career – a totally free laptop.  Use the laptop to study, work and play.

Remember, the more responsibility you take for your education, the more success you will have.
