The new Mac OS X Lion is on its way, the release date is announced on the Apple website. The price will be $29.99 and Apple claims that it will have 250 new features such as Multi-Touch gesture, full screen apps, Mission Control a new Mail as well as Auto Save and Air Drop to name just a few. The new Operation System from Apple will be available in the App Store as an upgrade for the Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 and this upgrade will be just 4GB.
If you purchase a new Mac after the 6th June 2011 you are qualified to make a request to get this update for free, but as I understand that only 30 days after the official release date from Lion. I recommend to simply wait until July and buy a new Mac after Lion is released, because I am sure the new Mac’s will be shipped with Lion and not Snow Leopard.
But maybe you prefer to wait a bit longer, because you would like to avoid the trouble some Mac Users had when Apple switched from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I personally had no problem upgrading my MacBook but I heard from some people they had. I do not think Apple will make the same mistake twice and be comfortable to say to go for it.
Since Apple is not just strong on the computer market, but also on the tablet and smart phone devices I can see that Lion will be the platform to make communicating with and between those devices much easier. By the way, kind of the same move is Microsoft doing with their Windows 8, in my opinion.
I am very impressed about Windows 7 compare to Windows Vista, even if I am not a fan of the way Microsoft is selling their OS. Instead of having one version they have 4 or 5, starting at almost $200 and this doesn’t even include a light version of MS Office. Yes, iWorks is not the same as MS Office, but enough for my purposes and I found that OpenOffice became very compatible with MS Office documents. Anyways I am looking forward to Windows 8 as well as Lion and wish both OS best of luck and would like to see where the future is going from here, hopefully even more user-friendly
