How-to: Coaching with video, part 8

I promised the 8^th post in this series to be easy and fun. Today you get the chance to see how far you got with your video coaching skills. If you do it right, if you complete the assignment then I will reward you!

Share with the world what you think is worth to share

Today’s lesson

Read what I have to say about privacy. If you handle yourself well enough on the internet then you are on your way to broaden your horizon as a coach! It will open the way to learn how to:

• Keep your pupil’s parents happy
• Give your sponsors exposure.
• Show off.
• Flag to the world that your sport is alive and kicking.

There might be a downside to this. If you are very strict on keeping your identity hidden

for others on the internet then you now get into the danger area. You can’t flag the world without revealing something about yourself. Next I will draw you a picture that might help you to overcome your fears. This is the third block you encounter in this coaching with video “series”.

• The first one was using a camera.
• The second was using a computer to some extent.
• Today it is about: being on the internet without losing control.

Skip this if privacy on the internet is not a problem. Simply continue with the assignment. If you discuss something with others which is private then you normally take some actions. In the real world you talk less loud or make sure you are in a separate room. This sounds logic enough.

And if you want to be heard by many people you talk louder, grab a microphone or use the press to spread the word. In that last case you are very visible to others. I’m pretty sure that when you grab a mic in front of an audience while being in your underwear or saying inappropriate things…you get fired. Your coaching days are numbered.

There is a one on one comparison with your presence on the internet. Lowering your voice

and using a separate room can be like send an email to discuss private matters, doing a Skype or msn call, being in a private chat room and sending a private message on Facebook. Exposure to a broad public can be done by using forums or blogs, Facebook fan pages, YouTube and twitter.

You probably never think about the fact that people see you when you walk on the street and buy something in a shop. You never thought about it as a violation of you privacy when you walked home with a McDonald’s bag to signal your last visit… so why get upset with people seeing you do things on the internet; Things that everybody else does too. You are only human.

Today’s assignment: posting to twitter

I will make it very simple for you. Follow the steps below one by one. Do leave a message for visualcoach if you run into trouble. I will try to help you. Stick to the order of the steps!

• If you have not done so in the previous assignments: download and install utilius fairplay 5
• If you have not done so in the previous assignments: download and install the twitter plugin for fairplay 5
• Open fairplay 5 on your PC and open the best video of your pupil’s you made so far.
• Play the video and stop it on a remarkably funny, good or painful moment.
• Add a circle or text. Read previous post in this series if you need to learn this.
• Set up twitter in fairplay as shown in this YouTube movie. (includes setting up a free twitter account if you don’t have one) Send your picture to twitter.

• Optional: Use the open web browser and search for visualcoach on twitter. Click the follow button. Now you can see any (public) move I make on twitter .

The reward

Complete the assignment before 2012 and tell me right after you posted on twitter. I will check it and send you in return a 90 day license key for fairplay 5. If you already have a full license then you can pass on the license to a friend. Just tell me who send it to in your message to us.

By completing the assignment you learned how to send messages into the world right from your video application. Make sure you use it to send out pictures that contain your sponsors logo and texts, keep parents up to date on their kids progression and show off to your college coaches.
