Well, here is the first entry (finally posted nearly a week after the fact); the UNBOXING. Please pardon the shaking, this was recorded on my iPhone (no tripod) for ease of uploading.
Following the unboxing, came two hours of “pre-prep” – initial set-up and creation of Factory Recovery DVDs.
Pre-Prep:
The initial set-up was very straight forward. Windows 7 launched it’s set-up routine, connected to the wireless network, and walked through the initial settings in a matter of minutes. Dell sets the system to prompt for the creation of Factory Recovery media as part of the initial set-up.
Factory Recovery media creation gives the user the option of creating DVD’s (requires 2) or USB Flash Drive (8Gb) based recovery. Since I didn’t have an 8Gb flash drive, I opted for the DVDs. The Dell DataSafe application walked through the creation process neatly and completely; however, it took nearly 2 hours to complete the entire process (from the initial power-up).
All in all, I was happy with this start of my user experience. It was nice to not have to put on my techie-hat to complete this.
