Bolshoi The Boxer Writes For Sports Keeda (Satire)

My dog, Bolshoi, is keen. He intends to become a sports journalist.

“Do you know that Sports Keeda is running a competition for posts about the World Cup on its website?”

“Yes, I received an email informing me of something to that effect.” I reply.

“I wish to participate. Can you eke out my entry on your laptop?”

“What makes you think that you can report, let alone win a prize for it?”

“What do you take me for? My canine instincts lend me an advantage. My story will have so much more bite.”

“Do you think that’s enough?” My eye-brows arch.

“My sharp nose will aid me in sniffing out a good story. Watch it! I can be a great news hound.” Bolshoi sniffles.

“Is this just your journalistic leanings to the fore or is there something else?”

“There’s the small matter of a BlackBerry Curve as the first prize. That would be so cool, specially round my neck.” Bolshoi glowers.

“Now, you’re talking. A BlackBerry with GPS would be a  wonderful aid in keeping track of your whereabouts.” I hate having to move from my laptop or away from the television.

“Do you know that Gagan Narang, the sharpshooter is one of the judges for the contest?” Bolshoi is all-knowing.

“No, I didn’t. I guess, he’ll be zeroing in on the best articles. Can Bolshoi The Boxer hit the bulls-eye?” I smile at my little joke.

“Let’s begin. I have a deadline to meet.”

“OK. What do you want me to say?”

“My first article will be about India’s chances at the World Cup. Type this down: India have their best ever opportunity to achieve their second World Cup win in 28 years.” Bolshoi gets down to business.

“That’s a good beginning.”

“That’s also the end. That finishes my post.”

“What! You can’t close an article before it’s begun.”

“Sure, I can. I’m well aware of the short attention span of my readers.I’m going to be a Twitter journalist. No more than 64 characters. The less you read, the less you forget.”

I concede that he has a point. A twisted, distorted, little prism of a viewpoint, but a point nevertheless.
