7 Tips for your MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air

First things first, whenever the term “Macbook” is used in the article body it refers to all three models: Macbook, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air.

1. Secure your Macbook with a password

When a Mac is setup for the first time, and a user account is created, Mac automatically log in that user account every time it is booted or woken from sleep. This feature is fine as long as you are working on a desktop, but if you are using a Macbook notebook, it would be advisable to turn this feature off. The reason is that, God forbid, if your Mac gets stolen, or you are away, any unauthorized person can easily access your information.

2. Tips to elongate your Mac’s battery life while travelling

With a MacBook, the keyboard is always lit up. While this is certainly a great feature, it does drain out your battery pretty soon. In order to stretch your battery life, you may want to turn off the keyboard backlighting and Bluetooth; it would be also a good idea to dim the display as low as is possible. These tips are especially useful when you are travelling and the only source of keeping your Mac working is its battery.

3. Get AppleCare for your Mac

If you own a MacBook, it is a good idea to get AppleCare. This comes in handy if something goes wrong with your Macbook once the warranty period has expired.  If you have to get your Mac repair on your own, it is going to cost you a fortune.

4. Get a USB or MiFi data card

The MacBook comes with built-in WiFi, but the problem is that if you are a road warrior, you don’t find WiFi coverage everywhere. So to stay connected, it is a good idea to carry a 3G data card.

5. Back it up before you leave

Always expect unexpected. Yes, it is good to be prepared for the worst. You can implement this principle with your Macbook by always having a backup of your hard disk. If you are going to travel with your Macbook, it is strongly recommended that you backup your entire data before you head out of the door. If something worst happens, you know your data is safe.

6. Take a bootable backup with you

If your Macbook is so indispensable to your life, then you should have something that you can use in case your drive crashes when you needed your Mac the most. You should be able to boot it immediately and continue with your work. For that reason, it is a good idea to carry a portable hard drive that carries a clone of your entire hard drive.

7. TSA friendly bag

If you are a frequent flyer, and find it quite troublesome to take out your laptop every time you have to check in, you can go for a TSA friendly bag. With this bag you save yourself trouble of taking out your laptop every time when you have to go through the security check at the airport.
